Support The Challenge

One little known and perhaps rarely considered aspect is how The Challenge is financed, where the money comes from and goes to, to enable it to function.

The young person entering The Challenge pays only the cost for the purchase of their record books (which includes all certificates and badges) and no further fee is payable. The activities a young person chooses to participate in may incur further expenses eg expeditions.

There is a considerable amount of administration required to operate The Challenge and whilst the operating authorities are all voluntary workers it is vital that they are backed by a readily accessible administrative office and staff at national level. This we have and operate on a very modest basis. The financial support comes from a number of different sources.

One of these sources is from Charter for Business Members. These are projects that are supported by organisations and individuals in the community.

A further source of support is through Schools and Colleges who have kindly donated to become a 'Friend of The Challenge'. We are grateful to the following Schools and Colleges for their willingness to support in this manner.

  • Macleans College
  • Pinehurst School
  • Sacred Heart College Lower Hutt
  • Columba College
  • South Otago High School
  • Craighead Diocesan School
  • Orewa College
  • Bethlehem College
  • St Patrick's College Silverstream

The Young New Zealanders' Challenge of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award would also like to thank the following
