The Charter for Business

The Charter for Business initiative was launched by HRH The Earl of Wessex CVO when he toured New Zealand in March 2004.

The Charter for Business provides the opportunity for organisations and individuals in the community to become financial supporters of The Challenge through their five year membership. This is a Project driven initiative which is providing The Challenge with the manifesto to deliver our Challenge Programme to young people who may not otherwise have even heard of The Young New Zealanders’ Challenge let alone be in a position to be striving for their own awards.

To date we have the following Charter for Business Members and it is due to their generosity that we are witnessing growth and development in areas of the community where previously we could have only hoped that The Challenge would be operating. The Members to date are:

  • Max Fashions Ltd
  • The Lou and Iris Fisher Charitable trust
  • A Wellington Business Consortium

In South Auckland we are seeing tremendous results from the Taonga Group of teenage mothers whose awareness is awakening to the beauty of outdoor camping activities, the excitement of learning new skills and the challenge of planning and preparing activities with babies in tow.  The opportunity that these young women are being presented with is through the Charter Membership of Max Fashions Ltd.

We have now commenced a further project in Wellington with young refugees. Assimilating into our New Zealand society can be very difficult for those whose lives have been affected by relocation and the changes of country and culture. There are special trials and challenges. This pilot project will provide opportunities for young people that, as New Zealanders' we take for granted. It is through the Charter for Business scheme that we are able to proceed with this work.

We are currently finalising two further projects for our Members and anticipate announcing these projects in the very near future.
