The Programme

Requirements

Requirements prior to Moveable Sections change:

You need to give service in the community for at least:

  • 15 hours spread out over at least 3 months at Bronze level
  • 30 hours spread out over at least 6 months at Silver level
  • 60 hours spread out over at least 12 months at Gold level

If you break this down - this is only one hour and 15 minutes a week!

Effective 1st January 2007 - Movable Sections:

We have made a change to the programme which means that you now have a choice to make when it comes to the time requirements.  Check out the Introduction to the Sections page to see all the details.

 

There are three types of service you can do

  • Practical service - includes introduction to voluntary service and briefing sessions eg charity work/fundraising, helping those in the local community, conservation
  • Training and practical service - includes introduction to voluntary service, training and practical service eg adult literacy, fire service, youth leadership, civil defence
  • Specialised training that results in some form of qualification eg first aid, lifesaving.

Below are some suggestions of different service activities

  • Coaching sports or getting involved with sports administration
  • Help the Auckland Brain Injury Association, they are always looking for volunteers to help with collections, fundraising and admin.  Contact  Amber 09 5712605 or email amber.west@brain-injury.org.nz
  • Volunteer for Sailability. They need volunteers in the Wellington region contact Maureen 04 9722095
  • Volunteer for Leprosy Misson NZ. In the Auckland area.  Contact John 0800 862 873
  • Volunteering for The Meningitis Trust   They need volunteers for 2006 throughout NZ, contact Michelle Hall
  • Giving assistance in rest homes/private hospitals
  • Getting involved with Lifeline
  • Getting involved with community agencies such as CCS, IHC, NZ Deaf Association, Royal NZ Foundation for the Blind
  • Helping at children’s after school programmes eg Pridelands in Wellington
  • SPCA
  • Organising clean ups linking with the Dept of Conservation
  • New Zealand Trust for Conservation Volunteers
  • YMCA or YWCA Programmes
  • Helping faith-based organisations eg assisting with administrative requirements of group, helping look after children or providing an educational programme
  • Planning, executing and reporting a fundraising event
  • Regular weekly support of a local sports team

  • Peer Support work
  • Peer Tutoring
  • Volunteering on Youth Councils - contact your local city/district council in the first instance
