It is a place where participants, parents and coordinators can come for expert advice, help and to enrol in The Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award programme.
This is a collaboration between The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the YMCA. The YMCA provides the room and The Award provides the staff.
Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award staff are there for anyone wanting to enrol, they help you to decide which activities you want to do for your Sections, provide advise and guidance on where to access those activities, plus a troubleshooting and information service for teachers, parents and other adults.
But that's not all!! The YMCA centres have given us a massive discount on gym and fitness memberships using an Award discount card ($7.50 per session). They also have opportunities for Skill and Service placements so you can get a bigger bang for your buck!
The YMCA outdoor centres can also provide Adventurous Journey training, practice and assessments, at a reasonable cost.
Access to the OAC is FREE; there is no charge for The Award staffs' services.
The YMCA may charge a discounted price for any Award Sections you complete through them (some are free) but there is no obligation, you dont have to access YMCA activities to attend the OAC's but they do have some really cool stuff to do.
Initially each of the 4 centres is open once a month starting from 19 May 2009. This could become weekly if there is enough demand.
